FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

Including the ones where the honest answer is “not published yet”. Where GeoMod has not confirmed a figure, this page says so rather than estimating.

Are GeoMod domes actually built, or is this still a concept?

Built. GeoMod domes stand completed, furnished and occupied in the Tsitsikamma forest in the Eastern Cape — designed by the team, erected on a steep, access-constrained site, lived in by guests, and weathering real coastal seasons. GeoMod's own phrase for this is "This is not a render." The wider model range consists of completed designs that are ready to be built; those are not existing stock.

What does a GeoMod dome cost?

Price is on application for every model. Cost depends on site access, foundations, services and finish level, and those vary enough between projects that a published figure would mislead more often than it would help. Tell us about your site and we will give you a real number rather than a range.

How long does it take from decision to handover?

The target is about three months from confirmed design to handover. GeoMod controls manufacture and assembly; site approvals, foundations and services vary by location and sit largely outside that control, so the honest answer for your project depends on which stage dominates. The approvals stage is most often the one that sets the overall timeline.

What sizes are available?

Four models: Hives at 20 m² (studio hospitality unit), Kuppel Suit at 43 m² plus an 8 m² deck (one-bedroom suite), DuoZo at 50 m² plus 10 m² of decks (one-bedroom with living space), and DuoZoMetri at 75 m² (two-bedroom dwelling). All four are completed designs built from the same structural kit.

How many people does each model sleep?

GeoMod has not published occupancy figures yet, so this page does not state them. If sleeping capacity is material to your feasibility study, ask us and we will give you the current position directly rather than an estimate.

Can a dome go on a steep or remote site?

Yes — that is where the system earns its keep. The weather-tight shell is installed by a small crew using light equipment rather than heavy plant, which is precisely what makes steep, forested and access-constrained sites workable. The built domes at Tsitsikamma sit on exactly that kind of site. Panels still need to reach the site, so some access is required, but not the access conventional construction would demand.

Is the system certified, and does it meet building regulations?

Certification and engineering sign-off are still being finalised, so GeoMod does not make claims about them on this site. That omission is deliberate. If certification status matters to your decision — and for most commercial projects it will — ask us and we will tell you exactly where it stands.

What are the domes made of?

The structural system is a repeatable family of prefabricated panels, joints and openings, with load carried by the geometry of the shell rather than by added structural mass. The full materials and insulation specification is confirmed per project, and GeoMod has not published a standard specification sheet yet — ask us for the current detail.

Is this a kit I assemble myself?

No. Components are manufactured off site, and GeoMod's crew handles assembly on location. What you are buying is a delivered building, not a flat-pack.

Where does GeoMod deliver?

GeoMod is a South African company, designing and manufacturing locally. World-class architectural manufacturing at South African pricing is a genuine advantage against imported alternatives, at home and beyond our borders. Tell us where your site is and we will tell you what is practical.

Who is this actually for?

Four groups, in rough order of fit: game lodges and nature reserves where distinctive architecture is a direct revenue driver; eco-resort and mini-resort developers who want one repeatable system across multiple units; private owners building on estates or on steep, forested or sensitive sites; and premium short-stay owners adding a high-end unit to their property.

Can I visit a built dome?

The built domes are in commercial hospitality use in the Tsitsikamma, so access depends on the operator rather than on GeoMod. Get in touch and we will tell you what is currently possible.

Didn't find your question?

Ask it directly — get in touch and you will get a real answer from the people who designed and built the domes, not a brochure.
